"I congratulate everyone on the holiday. Your holiday is a holiday for us as well. On March 16, 2014 you showed us how to fight. Dear Cossacks, a low bow to you and many thanks from all residents of the Donetsk People's Republic. You honorably performed your duty to the Homeland. The Crimean Cossacks are close and dear to us. Friends militiamen, brothers, you are the people who rise at the first call to defend their Motherland. You are the people whose hearts are burning with love for their country, for their land, for their people, a low bow to you and thank you so much. Congratulations! I wish all the best to the Crimea, all the good to Russia! Peace, blue skies, and all the best," Alexander Zakharchenko said.

During the event, the Head of the Donetsk People's Republic was awarded with the Badge of the People's Militia of the Republic of Crimea. The award was presented by the representative of the Crimean People's Militia Regiment. In addition to that, the Crimean Cossacks presented Alexander Zakharchenko with an icon of St. Luke.

"This is a common award. We went to fight not for awards, not for honours and titles. We went to fight for our Homeland. For our mothers, fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, for churches, for the holy faith, and for our language. Therefore, this is award to the entire Donetsk People's Republic. And I am happy to have met people like you. This brotherhood, the feeling that was born in the trenches, in the battles near Novoazovsk, Shakhtyorsk, Debaltsevo, Yelenovka, Lisichansk, Krasny Partizan – I will carry this feeling through my whole life. No friendship and brotherhood will ever be more constant than that between Donetsk and the Crimea," the Head of the DPR said.

The event was concluded with a moment of silence.
